Service Events

 

5K Run/Olympic Day

Date: Thursday, September 23

Location: Palmer Field

Description: This year, IASA Service Core will collaborate with Asha (a South Asian organization aimed at bettering the education system in India) and IASA Community Building in order to put on a 5K Run/Walk. This event will take place at Palmer field and all proceeds from this event will go toward building schools for children in India.

 

Gandhi Day of Service

Date: Saturday, October 2

Location: Metro Detroit Area

Description: Gandhi Day is a national day of service that started at the University of Michigan in 1997. IASA established the Gandhi Day of Service, an event credited with mobilizing University students and allowing them to participate in community service activities throughout the Metro-Detroit area, in the name of peace and unity.  This day is now a national day of community service observed in over 35 states. Last year, over 400 participants took part in this day in order to donate there time to the community. We can’t put this event on without your help -- site leader applications and volunteer registration will be available at the beginning of September. 

 

Bone Marrow Drive

Date: Tuesday, October 26

Location: The Diag

Description: IASA Service Core is collaborating with the National Marrow Registry Program to hold a bone marrow drive on the Michigan.  There is an urgent need for South Asian bone marrow for those who are affected by threatening diseases.  Please stop by our tent in the diag.  A simple and painless cheek swab could save a life!

 

Adopt-a-Family

Every year around the holidays, IASA Service Core puts on an event known as Adopt-a-Family. Each dance in the IASA Cultural show will be assigned to a family for whom they will be responsible for raising money and buying gifts.  With your help, we hope to make some families holiday wishes come true!

 

IASA Alternative Spring Break Team

IASA Service Core plans on organizing an Alternative Spring Break team for the 2011 Spring Break! IASA members are encouraged to apply for this great opportunity to serve a different community desperately in need of help.  More information will be available in September!
